Our editorial team & how we research
WhiskMetrics publishes under one byline: the WhiskMetrics Editorial Team. We don’t use personas or claim credentials we can’t back up. Instead, every guide shows its sources so you can check our work.
WhiskMetrics Editorial Team
The WhiskMetrics editorial team researches and writes every guide and builds every calculator on the site. We work from primary sources — preparation guides published by Japanese tea producers, peer-reviewed research on caffeine, L-theanine, and catechins, and USDA/FDA data — and cite them in each article. Numbers are double-checked against the calculators, and pages are reviewed and updated when better sources appear.
Where our numbers come from
Preparation guidance (powder dose, water volume, water temperature, whisking technique) comes from guides published by established Japanese matcha producers and tea associations in growing regions such as Uji, Nishio, and Kagoshima.
Figures on caffeine, L-theanine, and catechins such as EGCG come from published, peer-reviewed studies. Matcha composition varies by cultivar, harvest, and grade, so we report ranges and say where a number comes from.
General caffeine guidance for adults follows the U.S. FDA, and nutrition data comes from USDA FoodData Central where an entry exists.
How a guide gets published
- 1Research
We start from primary sources — producer preparation guides, published studies, and FDA/USDA data — rather than other blogs.
- 2Check the math
Ratios, caffeine estimates, and cost figures are cross-checked against our calculators so the article and the tool agree.
- 3Review for claims
We remove anything we can’t source and keep health statements conservative — no “superfood” or cure-all claims.
- 4Keep it current
When better sources appear or a reader spots an error, we update the article and its review date.
